My most recent trip to Japan reminded me how important it is to make time for family, that nothing compares to spending time with them no matter where you are or what you’re doing. When Vern and I started to travel a lot 2 years ago, there would be a lot of times where we would find ourselves exploring a new place and wishing our loved ones were with us. So when we finally had the opportunity to travel again with them after 2 long years, especially now where we would be complete, we had sleepless nights leading to the trip! We were looking forward to spending a week straight with our dad who don’t see as often because he’s based out of Manila now for work. I guess that’s one of the bad things about growing up with a close knit family, you start to feel like something’s missing when you’re not complete all the time. :)
Another reason would be that time’s running by too quickly nowadays. Can you believe that we’re already halfway through March? and we’re already on the 3rd month of the 2017? We feel like we just rang in the new year and here we are. It’s true what they say that it is easy to forget that we’re not the only ones ageing but our parents as well. Before we know it, we’ll be moving out of the house then only seeing them once in awhile then all of a sudden, we’ll have our own families to care for. So while we still have the opportunity, while there’s still time, one of the things we should prioritize is to spend all that we can with them :) It doesn’t have to be a fancy trip abroad or out of town, it could just be to eat dinner together every single day, no excuses. Or try a new cafè or restaurant once a week, without any gadgets on the table. Or it could be having movie night at home with coke and popcorn. Any simple way would do as long as it’s a way to get and stay close :)
