If there are two things I sure do bring with me home to Manila whenever I visit Cebu, it’s a happy tummy along with little bit of that extra weight. The moment I land, I immediately let go of my worries and just eat my heart out! :) I don’t know if it’s because the food in the city’s just too good or maybe it’s because it’s just so much more fun to try new things with your partner or could be both?? :P
Me and Ben always make it a point to try a new restaurant and the first on our list on my last visit (the longest I’ve stayed to date!) was Gibbs’ Wings. I’m a sucker for anything chicken, in fact if you wanted to make me suffer, a way to was to forcibly remove that meat from my life… Yup, that’s how much I love it! One of my favorite ways to enjoy it is a plate full of chicken wings, the saucier and spicer, the better for me ;) When I got invited by the team behind the restaurant to try and visit their newest branch at IT Park, I skipped breakfast and lunch and headed there right away just in time for my first meal of the day. I came at around 2 pm so I that perfect stage of hunger for me to enjoy everything on their menu! :)
As you enter the restaurant, you get this feeling like the weekend’s here and it’s time to celebrate a great work week. The perfect ambiance for me especially if you’re on the hunt for that perfect lunch escape! Not only do you get great comfort food but a taste of the weekend we’re all looking forward to as well :) Win win, right?
I started with the appetizers – Mozza Sticks and Wedges. My favorite has got to be the potato wedge slices because you could tell that they’re freshly cut potatoes, none of that frozen bagged ones you can find in the grocery! Their secret barbeque sauce was a great addition to it, too!
Now next was the plate of Nachos. My mom’s favorite so I’m quite picky when it comes to this. The melted and shredded cheese was great, the salsa was spicy enough for me and once you get to the beef hidden below, you’d be sent to nachos heaven :) It’s the kind that you’d crave for when you’re PMS-ing or when you need to recover from a few drinks before heading home.
I met the owner, Coy , when I visited and he was just a joy to be around. It was fun knowing the how the restaurant started and how they made a once “only for my friends and family” made it to be one of the most famous places that serve chicken wings in Cebu. If you’re curious, Gibbs is actually their dog! Yup, it was the first question I asked! lol
And now let’s get to the main stars of this restaurant – the wings! I got to try all their original flavours which were the Gibbs’ Hote Wings, Gibbs’ Wings Spicy Honey Garlic and the Gibbs’ Wings Angel Wings. My verdict? My favorite has got to be the Angel Wings! Don’t get me wrong their OG flavor’s amazing but the cheesy component just made it so unique for me! Now I don’t eat so much wings but it’s the very I’ve tried and cheese is always yummy right? :) I also love how they don’t use bleu cheese because I’m not so fond of the after taste. I tried asking what cheese they used but they wouldn’t say! If I were in their place too though, why would I give away that million dollar answer, right? :P As long as it’s good and it’s made my happy tummy, I’m there!
