Verniece has always been drawn to the ice. I guess her growing up with Ice Skating has made her heart cold as ice. lol Kidding aside, for as long as I can remember, Finland has always been on top of her travel bucket list and one of the main reasons for this is a visit to an ice hotel. Even before Instgram hyped up these little icey kingdoms, I’ve heard her talk about it endlessly and how one day, she will get to eat and sleep inside one and as soon as the sun rose, she would put on her Ice skating boots on and skate right outside on a frozen lake as long as her heart pleases. :)
This year, her vision finally came to life when we made our trip up to Lapland. We booked an Ice Hotel Lunch and Tour throughKKDAY PH and I’ve never seen Verniece more excited. Not only will her childhood dream come true but we’ll finally have our real life Anna and Elsa moment!
We were fetched at our hotel at around 10 am and the van made it’s way through Artic Snow Hotel where an exclusive tour around and a lunch was waiting for us. We met our guide and he told us how much effort and ice it takes to build it just for it to be destroyed at the end of winter season. Yup, you read that right, they remake the ice hotel every single year. That’s what makes each one unique because no two hotels are made identical. They invite designers from all over to build the suites, the chapel, the restaurant and even the bar. :) It was surreal to know that other than the reindeer fur and the place mats you see on the photos below, everything is made out of literally just ice!
The facility even has an ice sauna that works just like your normal one. It might be hard to imagine to cool off inside an ice cube but we tried it and it really did work! Right after our tour, we got to enjoy a local specialty, salmon soup and a brownie served on an ice plate. Definitely one of the coolest places we’ve ever had lunch!
We even got to meet their in house reindeers and got to feed them too :) Definitely a complete finnish experience!
Have a breeze by booking all your tours here and abroad through KKDAY PH.
