If there’s one thing I could say about the Philippines, it would be this: Our country hands down is the the most beautiful island in the world but to get from one place to the other is a nightmare.
It was till I started to fly with the flag carrier regularly. I used to think that because I saved a few hundred pesos, bad service is okay. All of that changed when I started going to Cebu once or twice a month to see Ben. I noticed that I would waste almost half a day and end up spending more on food – both in the airport and on the plane. That’s when I decided that as much as possible, I would only fly with Philippines Airlines around the country! After almost a year of being satisfied with all the flights I took with them, it made me curious as to how the experience will be to use the airline abroad using their business class seats :) We heard that they invested so much to make improvements by buying new planes that would have the Tri-class experience, comfortable seats, bigger space, better entertainment and their menu as well!
We finally had the opportunity when we flew to Honolulu, Hawaii using their new airbus A330 plane. The new refurbished ones have the economy, premium economy and business classes. Perfect for the budget of every Filipino! :) Right as your enter the plane, it makes you a little giddy on the inside because everything’s so new. You’re greeted with the signature “Hello Mabuhay” and the biggest smile ever. Right then you know that you’re being welcomed home. Filipinos are very known for their hospitality and for me, nothing beats the way we do it. We met the steward and stewardess that were assigned to the business class lounge and they were just genuinely the friendliest. Like you just feel that they want to service you because not only do they love their job, but they’re trained to do so. We were led to our seats and an amenity kit was handed to us. To tell you a little secret, I’ve started collecting these just as remembrances for the special flights I’ve taken, I know it may just contain disposable items but they’re reminders that if you work harder, you can treat yourself one day. Socks, a toothbrush and L’occitane products on a plane is a big thing especially if you’re going to stuck on a metal case for almost half a day :) I guess it’s just the girly girl in me talking!
Welcome drinks are mandatory but Filipino inspired juices just make it special. No matter how yummy the food is abroad, nothing beats a taste of home :) Before we took of, we got to choose the food we could order for our first meal. I ofcourse got a bowl of PAL’s famous Arroz Caldo. Like I said on our vlog, they have hands down the BEST. Verniece ordered chicken barbeque and she said it was good, too! After eating, I got to tinkle with what they had to offer for entertainment. They have updated movies but you know what my favorite part was? They had Filipino movies and tv shows!! They’re my guilty pleasure and I even got to watch up on the new John Llyod movie. lol
Now after a movie and half a Big Bang Theory episode, jetlag was hitting me and I knew then it was time for me to sleep, the 44 inch seat pitch that turns into a fully flat bad (78-inch bed length) that had adjustable air cushion system (perfect for people who have back problems like me) and the best part of it, a massage function that just made me doze off instantly :) I got to sleep for about two hours and personally, I like to drink alot of water before and during the flight that’s why I always make sure I book aisle seats and it’s so convenient that all seats have direct aisle access :) Each seat comes with a USB port too so you won’t run out of battery for your gadgets when you opt to use the free wifi they offer onboard!
During the flight, when you’re still up to shop, you can! The PAL Boutique offers a wide range of duty free and travel items as well as exclusive PAL merchandise. You can even shop before your flight online at boutique.philippineairlines.com and you can opt to have delivered to you onboard or to any PAL Philippine destination. PAL also offer the myPAL roam wherein you can purchase portable Wifi hotpot device before you land. You can stay connected in over 100 countries and connect up to 5 devices at a time :)
FINAL VERDICT: It’s amazing how much our flag carrier has upgraded their planes and have gone above and beyond to show how hospitable and welcoming Filipinos can be. Plus nothing beats the food they offer. EVERYTHING was just too good. PAL’s service gives a glimpse of what OFWs who haven’t gone home in awhile have been missing and tourists who are visiting for the first time of the world class service they’ll experience once they get to the Philippines. 4 stars for me too! :)
