My last visit to the Colosseum in Rome left me with photos that either have a bunch of selfie sticks behind me or just plain faces trying to squeeze themselves into the little space of whats left for everyone trying to take a photo. I spent about 30 minutes trying to get a photo worthy of posting but failed a hundred times and more so I just gave up and just went on to listening to the audio guide we have purchased for us at the entrance. When I found out that I’ll be going back to Rome again, I knew that I had to find a way to get a photo that had 0 photobombers. Yup, that’s what you call dedication in the world of blogging! lol :P I searched long and hard for a tour that would allow me access to the arena floor, a special part of the Colosseum that only gives a limited amount of entries to people per day so you will never find it crowded :) I looked for a tour company that does and found it at the website called THE ROMAN GUY. They offer only the best and exclusive tours all over Italy and they have the special keys to some of the most special touristy parts of the country. They even offered tours wherein you’ll arrive about an hour before museum doors open to the public so you get the whole place to yourselves. With them, you’re sure to be taken care of!
We started our tour with a brief background on what and how the Colosseum looked like centuries ago and even the surrounding buildings that had a big impact on the structure. It was my first time to know that a gladiator school was built and located adjacent to it to make it easier for the gladiators to come back as soon as the battle is over, well if they do make it out there of it alive! Also, did you know that they held water games inside the colosseum?? It had a purpose though as this was the way for the grounds to be cleaned :) The original was made of marble and each little “window” had a statue made of bronze, ofcourse, these were stolen little by little as the years went by that’s why we’re left with what you see today. As soon as that short introduction was over, we went straight to the special entrance exclusive for tours such as these!
Finally no photobombers and selfie sticks around me!! lol We only had about 5 minutes in the area so we took advantage of those glorious minutes. lol Plus we got to see the Colosseum from an angle that only the emperors, senators and kings would see back in the day! :) What a treat right?!
Unfortunately, those glorious, special moments of no one behind us had to end and we had to go back down to earth. HAHA! We still got to tour the rest of the Colosseum and found out facts we never would’ve known if not for the tour :) Definitely made our afternoon interesting. A big thank you to THE ROMAN GUYS for this treat!
