I spent my 23rd birthday in a very different this year. I was always the type to celebrate it with friends and have a big party to welcome it at midnight and then have a quiet dinner with my family on the day itself. I’ve been doing that for as long as I remember but for some reason, I felt this itch to change the tradition. I slowly did last year when I went to New York and only celebrated it with my cousins and siblings. However, this time, I wanted to be quieter. All I wanted was to fly off to somewhere I’ve been wanting to go to with the people I love. I wish I got to bring my whole family with me but because of my parents’ work commitments, I only got to bring Vern and Vernon with me.
I’ve been wanting to go back to Phuket since I first visited it last 2015. When I found out that one of the best resorts on the island had an availability on the week of my birthday, I decided then and there that it was the place I was meant to go to. I first found out about KATA ROCKS when we met Michael last year in a travel conference in Singapore and after hearing all his amazing stories about the resort, we immediately included it to our list of places to visit this 2017! Finally, we did and my 23rd birthday was extra special because of it! :)
The resort is located on the other side of Phuket. It’s the more secluded and private area of the island and that’s what makes this place special. It’s perfect for when you’re after a weekend of bliss and rejuvenation. Aside from the amazing service and facilities, the architecture is what makes it stands out from the rest. The owner has this special affiliation with yachts so he made sure it was designed to make guests feel like they’re spending a few days aboard one :) I mean, it’s possible to save to spend a few nights in luxury hotels but literally only one in a million people can ever experience staying on a yacht and these guys made it possible for us mere mortals :P
We were given our own 2 bedroom villa and it had the most amazing view plus our own lap pool to boot. We’re pretty sure that what makes this one of the best is that! You literally see different shades of blue :)
Each villa includes breakfast for two and the spread was reason enough to wake up extra early in the morning! Anything that you can think of that can make your breakfast complete, they have it!
We also had a chance to try out their multi-awarded in house spa and their signature massage could be enough reason to stay in the hotel :)
And now, let’s talk about the villa, shall we? Each one comes with a complete kitchen (yes, I’m talking about plates, utensils, infrared stove, high tech appliances, the best cookware and a fully stocked mini bar) where you can experience a chef cooking for you, your own pool, a living room, a tub and you can literally control the whole room with an iPad. Amazing.
We spent a total of 4 days there and all we did was eat, threw in our bikinis to chill by the pool and stare at the view with a glass of their specially brewed gin in hand. If my birthday was this special every year, I wouldn’t mind turning a year older more often ;)
