Dear Freshman College Students,
School has started and I’m sure you’re very very excited for what’s to come for you in the biggest school. I say biggest school because I remember my mom telling me how excited she was for me to enter the “big school” aka grade school so I consider highschool the bigger one and well, college the biggest! haha Okay, that was pretty lame I know but the point is you’re excited! Horraaay! You’re about to have the best four (five/six/seven for others haha) years of your life and you really really have to look forward to it. I graduated just last Saturday and well, I wish I didn’t have to leave so stay as long as you can!!!
Kidding aside, you will have the time of your life. This is the time for you to know yourself a little bit better, know what you’ll be doing for the rest of your life, branch out, learn life lessons you will never ever learn in highschool, meet the friends you’ll grow up with and well, you can even meet the person you’ll be growing old with. Personally, all of that happened to me in my 5 year stay and I must say that it will make you experience the ups and downs of life. While you give life a pull, it will give you a push too. I failed subjects but passed most with flying colors, I lost most of my friends but met the ones I would keep for life, I met professors that made me hate school with a passion but met one that made me realize what I want to do after. I learned how to love reading more but college made me hate math SOOOOO much more. I learned to do very unquestionable things yet learned life lessons I can even pass on to my kids. I learned how to eat like a pig but also learned the hard way that calories are little creatures that sew your clothes alittle bit tighter every night. I learned that it’s a dog eat dog world out there but being nice will get you everything you want. I got my heart broken but learned that God takes people away from you because He’ll give you the one you can keep forever. I learned that you will make family along the way but the ones you were born with are the ones who will be there at the end of the day. College will teach you all those and if it doesn’t, it will teach you lessons tailor made for you to grow as an individual and will help shape you to become the person you’re meant to be.
They say that the real world is after college and I only entered so I have nothing to say to that yet but here’s one thing I can pass on to you. It may not be the real world yet and you’re probably pressured by your parents to be very careful about the next four years because it will determine how your future will be but enjoy the ride. Don’t push it. Don’t study too hard and neglect fun because most of the lessons I learned up there were learned outside the four walls of my Miguel classrooms. Don’t forget to maximize all your God given talents because it is through these that will make you know the ones you’re just about to discover. Don’t forget to fail because it is through failure that you will learn to appreciate victory. Don’t forget to open your heart and mind to things because it is only through then that all the good ones will enter. Have fun, you! :)
