We were invited by the lovely people of Dolce and Gabanna fragrance for an afternoon tea at TWG, Resorts World to launch the newest fragrance, Dolce. I went straight from the airport since I just got home from Boracay and even when I was running on spare battery for energy, it wasn’t so hard to enjoy myself with the very intimate setting, the yummy food prepared and engaging conversation taking place :) I’ve been a user of the brand’s famous Light Blue since I was in highschool so I was very excited to know what the brand has to offer. They’ve been trying to brew a scent that’s perfect for a girl who’s slowing outgrowing the Light Blue but not too mature yet for The One and that’s where Dolce was born.
This project is very close to the heart of the two designers. Dolce is a new fragrance that heralds an emotional and sensary journey through the heart of D&G’s DNA: the noble land of Sicily. Feminine and fresh, Dolce is one’s personal touch, signature scent. It epitomises the simplicity of a result obtained thanks to a complex process: the same one needed to create a finely embodied dress. The little details of this little perfume is very much something Stefano and Domenico worked on – from the design of the bottle, the way Dolce’s written (it’s the signature of one of the designers’ father) the TV commercial, and even the print ads. They were very very hands on with everything! Each detail of the packing has a personal meaning to them, Domenico Dolce actually shot the campaign himself while Stefano Gabbana was the creative director. The film on the other hand had an all star cast with Academy Award winning director Guiseppe Tornatore directed the short film and the original soundtrack was written by Italian virtuoso Ermio Moricone.
How it smells: It’s something new yet very familiar. Its a gentle feminine mix of white flowers, introduced by the freshness of Neroli leaves and defined by the White Amaryllius, a South African flower used for the first time ever in a scent. It opens brightly-coloured, sweet-smelling explosion of Neroli leaves and Papaya flowers, dissipating into a floral bouquet as the core of the fragrance emergence. A unique and opulent combination of White Water-lily and bold White Daffodil blend perfectly with the full bodied flower. This floral signature is counter-balanced by the background of warm Musky notes, along with the complex accents of Caslmeran, leaving a sensual trail of light woods, earthly tones and poignant spices.
Verniece and I love intimate events like these since it’s very much easier to learn about the event and actually try it first hand! All we did was eat, eat and bicker about everything just like how those Stepford wives goes to tea! haha :)
As I’ve said above, the two designers chose the flower White Amaryllis, a flower you can only find in South Africa and blooms only once a year. The fulsome notes of this flower were created using a special technology using Headspace, it’s the process that captures the exact scent of the flower when it is in full bloom without having to cut it and grind the petals to extract the essential oil. See that white flower on the packaging? That’s how it looks like! :)
